Yoga 4 Kids
Registration fee: $375.00 CDN Funds. Payment made by e-transfer, cheque made payable to Sherry LeBlanc, or Pay PAL ($385.00 Cdn funds). All participants will receive a DVD of rhymes, songs and mantras, written support material and a professional development certificate on completion of the course. Discover ways to incorporate yoga into a child’s day-to-day activities. These techniques can be applied at home, in the classroom, gymnasium, activity room, yoga studio, dance studio, community centre and daycare. Program Location: Eight Branches Academy, 112 Merton Street, 3rd flr. Toronto, ON. M4S 2Z8 Yoga for the Special Child (YSC) was created by Sonia Sumar to enhance the natural development of children with special needs. The Basic One Program is a comprehensive training course in the theory & practice of yoga techniques for babies and children with learning and/or developmental disabilities from 0 - 12 years old. It offers a unique learning environment for children and their parents, special education teachers, yoga teachers, massage therapists and adaptive physical education teachers. Yoga for the Special Child®Programs are also appropriate for the continuing education of health-care specialists in a variety of fields including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Paediatric and Rehabilitation Nursing. The daily schedule includes classes from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one hour lunch break. Participants must arrange their own meals and accommodations. I will provide a list of accommodations. Yoga for the Special Child® continuing Education on Scleroderma and Arthritis is a comprehensive training course in teaching students of any age with Scleroderma or Arthritis. 18 hours of CEU's approved by the International Assn of Yoga Therapists, Yoga Alliance, American Assn. of Occupational Therapy, Nevada Physical Therapy Board.
PRE-REQUISITE: one of
- 200HR Yoga Teacher Training and 1 year teaching a population with special needs.
- Health background (PT, OT, RT, SLP, Nurse, Special Education Teacher) plus 1 year of consistent personal yoga practice.
- Yoga for the Special Child 95 hour certification program Part 1 plus 1 year of consistent yoga practice.
CURRICULUM includes
- The symptoms of Scleroderma, how relief is provided by yoga practice, safety issues, video and demonstration by Kathy Randolph with participants.
- The symptoms of Arthritis, how relief is provided by yoga practice, safety issues, video and demonstration by Kathy Randolph with participants
- Morning practice: participants experience a group class including students with Scleroderma and Arthritis.
- The use of Pranayama to improve circulation, digestion and sleep.
- The use of the Bandhas and Kriyas to relieve digestive issues in Scleroderma, safety issues, choosing the right technique for each case, how to teach the Bandhas and Kriyas
- The use of props specific to the hand and wrist concerns of Scleroderma and Arthritis
- Hands on practice with fellow participants: teaching Hatha Yoga class to a person with Arthritis
- Hands on practice with fellow participants: teaching Hatha Yoga class to a person with Scleroderma
- Hands-on practice by participants with volunteers with Arthritis
- Hands-on practice by participants with volunteers with Scleroderma
- Group discussion: definition of stages, building up the right Hatha Yoga class for each volunteer
DAILY SCHEDULE: Friday, August 13, 5:30 - 8:30, Saturday & Sunday Aug. 14 & 15 9:00 - 5:30.
