I am a former modern dancer and choreographer who has been teaching movement awareness and a comprehensive method of strengthening, stretching and aligning the body for forty-five years. I have been teaching yoga for twenty-five years. I founded Yoga 4 Kids in 2000 which specializes in teaching yoga to children and teens of all ages and abilities. Yoga 4 Kids is an integrated and holistic program of yoga instruction that combines postures, dynamic movements, breathing techniques, singing/chanting, deep relaxation and meditation with yoga activities that children enjoy. It promotes children’s mental & physical health & encourages their creative imagination & self-expression. I offer private yoga sessions and group yoga classes to children, teens and adults with special needs. |
I teach professional development workshops designed for adults on how to teach yoga & meditation to children that qualify as Yoga Alliance certificate courses. I am also a Basic One Program Teacher for Yoga for the Special Child which is a certified school with Yoga Alliance.
I am fortunate to have studied with three groundbreaking yoga teachers who specialize in teaching yoga to children: Shakta Kaur Khalsa, founder of Radiant Child Yoga; Krishna Kaur, Director of Yoga for Youth, who teaches Kundalini Yoga to at-risk and incarcerated youth in Los Angeles; and Sonia Sumar, founder and director of Yoga for the Special Child.

I began studying with Sonia Sumar in 2003 and graduated in 2005. Since then I have studied every year with Ms. Sumar and continue to be inspired by the subtle and sometimes profound transformations that occur with children and adults with special needs who take yoga classes regularly and by participants in the YSC Basic One Programs that I have facilitated.
I completed my Intermediate Integral Hatha Yoga & Integral Hatha Meditation Teacher Training at the Satchidananda Ashram in Virginia. I am also a certified Kundalini Yoga teacher and studied yoga with Sat Dharam Kaur ND. I am an E-RYT 500, RCYT and YACEP with Yoga Alliance and a Certified Yoga Therapist. The yoga therapy components of my practice are based on the International Association of Yoga Therapists, not derived from my status as an RYT with the Yoga Alliance Registry.
I have a HBSc. in Physical Anthropology from the University of Toronto and studied Eurhythmics at the Toronto Conservatory of Music. I am inspired by the Feldenkrais Method and my teachers Marion Harris, David Webber and David Zemach-Bersin.

My passion for movement led me to create an instructional DVD in 2010 that demonstrates the actions to the rhymes,
songs and mantras that are an integral part of my yoga classes for children. Singing and chanting encourage communication, develop a child’s rhythm and melody and enhance concentration and memory. A recent Stanford University study found that hand and expressive arm movements influence cognitive processing, fluid thinking and increase creativity.(1)
